Jorge Messi, Lionel Messi’s father and agent, arrived in Barcelona on Sunday, according to ESPN.
Messi Sr. is prepared to move to Italy this week to deal with some “personal issues,” according to reports, and no talks with Barcelona have yet been scheduled.
Although a meeting with new Barcelona president Joan Laporta has not been ruled out, no date has been set for the start of talks about Messi’s potential new contract.
Messi’s new deal will expire in June, and the 33-year-old has said that he will wait until the end of the season to make a decision.
After Saturday’s 4-0 Copa del Rey final victory over Athletic Bilbao, Laporta claimed that he was “convinced” that the Argentine will stay at Camp Nou.
The Barca president is putting the final touches on the contract offer after first conducting an internal audit of the club’s finances.
